| The point rules were changed today. As part of the process we also retroactively awarded points for photos uploaded lately as the photo points had been temporarily disabled for a while. All in all we granted about 1.2 million points! Now the rules have changed. We removed the automatic points given for uploading photos and writing blogs as these resulted in frequent abuse (posting of hundreds of empty blog entries or uploading countless photos that had been copied from some other website). Such abuse takes up our time, which would have otherwise been used to improve the site. To counter the effect of giving less points at the entry level, we significantly increased the point rewards on posting quality content. For example, when a blog is marked "hot" by the admins, each new entry written by the author will give 500 points. This adds up pretty quickly for a blog that is updated on a daily basis! Getting a blog nominated as "hot" is not difficult - all it takes is some regular updates and interesting (original, not copied) writing.   |
